We feel pressure not to be the downer in the group but all this does is push our sadness or troubles into the realm of non inportance. This just makes the next day harder to face, I would love to just be able to say I’m unhappy today and not face a backlash.

In a male dominated world it is hard for a woman to express her emotions. We are taught to “act happy” even if we aren’t because a display of emotion is perceived as weakness. Just a silly emotional woman. What is the result of a lifetime of invalidated feelings?

I’m known as the life of the party at family functions. What my family doesn’t know, is the effort it takes to get to the event.
