My daughter, Malynda, asked me to design her class ring. She said that she wanted something that didn’t look like a class ring and a heart shaped stone.
I made several sketches and asked her if she liked them. This is the one she chose.
She was very excited when I told her that I would try to put her name and graduation year in her own hand writing. I sketched out the basic design of the ring in 2-D in CAD. I placed the 2-D sketch on a sheet of paper multiple times at twice the actual size. I then gave it to her to write her and year on. Once she picked her favorite I put the image in my CAD program and traced her handwriting to place it in her ring.
Here is the Render of the CAD file.
Originally she wanted a red ruby and white diamonds. Later she changed her mind and decided on a white sapphire center stone and purple sapphire accent stones. The CAD file was sent out to be grown. Once I received the model back I made a mold of it and injected a wax copy from it. Once I had the wax copy, I could modify it to fit the white gold head that I had ordered for the center stone.
The rough casting.
The stones being set.
