My Jewelry and Metalsmithing classes combine traditional metalsmithing skills with digital fabrication techniques. I place equal emphasis on critical discourse and commercial jewelry skills. My students study the history of jewelry, contemporary artists, and the history of craft as it relates to fine art. Having a commercial jewelry background myself, I believe it is important to teach skills that my students will use if they choose to go into production jewelry or the industry. As such, they learn stone setting, bench repairs, mass production techniques, and basic CAD design.
